Through the power of storytelling, Streetside values and cultivates young people's voices, fostering educational equity and building community, literacy and arts skills.
Streetside Stories is an arts education non-profit that uses storytelling, interactive theatre activities and digital storytelling to help a diverse group of middle school students in San Francisco public schools to develop their reading, writing and speaking skills.
We work in San Francisco and East Bay public middle and elementary schools teaching autobiographical writing and digital storytelling workshops during the school day and after school. Streetside's in school and community programs serve over 2,000 youth in six Bay Area counties a year; 65% are low-income; 30% English Language Learners; 95% youth of color; and more than 60% are scoring below basic level on literacy tests.
