Volunteer Opportunity description

IIPSOCULTA welcomes volunteers from all countries to join the experience of being part of the Migrant Family Support Center (CAFAMI) team in a rural community in Tlaxcala, Mexico. Help in the ESOL through Civic Literacy Program teaching basic English while promoting US labor and human rights to family members of migrants in Mexico and to those who plan to migrate to the U.S.

The ESOL through Civil Literacy Program at CAFAMI uses innovative curriculum to teach English and train leaders in the struggle against the negative effects of immigration. Other responsibilities as a volunteer include building relationships with village people, visiting people in their homes, doing outreach, help running community events, fundraising, and working individually and in groups with women, children, and youth regarding specific issues related to migration and social justice. You will have the freedom to start any groups you are interested in, as well as join the groups that already are inprocess. They need your solidarity and are waiting to share their experiences with you.

As a volunteer, you will receive a homestay with a family in the community, which includes food and some traveling costs. We ask for a voluntary donation to the local families of no less than $400 a month. Consider extra expenses while traveling outside the community or the state. For more information about CAFAMI you can go to www.cafami.org and www.iipsocultaus.wordpress.com.
