Join Edge of Seven in Nepal this summer and help build a four-room Community and Education Center for women living and working at the Mankhu Village Farm in the Himalayan foothills of the Dhading District. The Center will be built using the earthbag construction method and will complement the existing programs at the Manku Village Farm for women who have been displaced from their families, offering them a safe and collaborative space to receive education, vocational training and health services.
Volunteers will be contributing specifically to the construction of the Center using the earthbag construction.The Center you will be building will include:
Your work will have a huge impact on the women at Mankhu Village Farm, many of whom have been victims of sex trafficking or abuse and neglect at the hands of their husbands or families. As a result, these women have nowhere to go. Resources like the Mankhu Farm and the Community and Education Center are important to helping the women in these situations heal and develop the skills they need to live independently and support their children.
Location: Mankhu Village, Dhading District, Nepal
Dates: May 19-June 2, 2013
Logistics:Mankhu is located two to three hours outside Kathmandu by road. Volunteers will reach Mankhu by jeep, sleep in accommodations on site, and eat local Nepali cuisine.
Program Fee Includes: Lodging, food, in-country transportation, trip leader, and 24/7 local support. Note: International airfare not included. Volunteers are required to make their own travel plans.
