Teaching English Volunteer Programs Teaching English as a volunteer will give you the opportunity to teach students who are eager to learn and improve their abilities in English. The students will also benefit from cultural exchange and different teaching techniques. You will be placed in either a public (government) or private school, depending on the area you wish to work. Your main role will be to teach English, however you may have the opportunity to assist in other school activities such as sports and extra curricular projects. Generally as a volunteer you will be teaching for 2 to 3 hours per day, 6 days a week, to students aged between 6 and 13 years old. There will be a teacher at the school to assist you with teaching methods, offer advice on dealing with communication barriers and provide you with suitable curriculum for the classroom. As a volunteer English teacher you do not need to be native in English but you do need to have good knowledge of the language. Volunteers will primarily work as English instructors either the schools of Village. Depending upon the need, volunteers may be asked to assist in other school extra curricular activities like sports. As a unique facet of this placement, the volunteer will have a rare and unique opportunity to witness and participate in their cultural. - Speaking, listening, writing - Simple vocabulary, simple sentences like greetings, colors, the Alphabet, numbers, time directions - Very basic grammar • Teach English (2-3 hours a day) in the school • Organizing games, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative education and extra curricular activities • Taking kids on educational tours • Helping kids to do homework, monitor academic progress, • Other helps on administration • Help in other activities or programs designed for school children (If any)
We offer teaching English volunteer placements in the Pokhara Valley and Chitwan areas. Upon arrival to Nepal the exact location of your placement will be finalized as we feel that it is important to discuss with you once you are here the different options and what each of these will entail. The choice of location will take into consideration; • Your skills and experience • The schools available and their need for volunteers • Suitability of area in regards to climate and accommodation
PROGRAM SCHEDULE
Our programs run throughout the year. You can volunteer anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months. Also, we are pretty flexible on your arrival regards and our programme is very flexible and it would be possible you to start any time.
TRAINING
You will be met at the airport by a representative of your guesthouse and taken back to your accommodation. All volunteers will receive initial training after arriving in pokhara. The training is designed to help you settle into Nepal and to ensure you are fully prepared for your volunteer placement: A typical orientation period is as follows:
Basic Nepali Language classes - 2hrs, morning. Nepali cultural orientation/general cultural exchange Sightseeing - 2 1/2 hrs, afternoon.
After completion of your orientation phase you will be escorted to your assigned placement.
