2013 MLK Jr. Day of Service Event Crew

On Monday, January 21, 2012 more than 1000 community and corporate volunteers will revitalize the campus of Washington Irving Middle School, a Title I school in Los Angeles, to help commemorate MLK Jr. Day in Los Angeles. This national holiday empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King's vision of a beloved community.

Join the MLK Jr. Day 2013 Event Crew and engage in behind-the-scenes work to prepare for the big day and keeps the event running smoothly. We're looking for volunteers to help with pre-event logistics and/or on the day of in the morning and/or afternoon. This is a great opportunity to do with a group!

Pre-Event Duties: (January 12-January 18). Times are flexible and can be based on your schedule. These duties will take place at the L.A. Works Headquarters in Elysian Park.

- Gathering event materials
- Ordering/making signs
- Spearhead execution of registration
- Event site run through and set up (Friday January 18th and 1 additional day)

Day of Event Duties (January 21):

- Set up tables and chairs and signage (banners)
-Manage registration table (sign in volunteers), volunteer assignments, t-shirts, media
- Crowd control and organizational assistant
- Floater to provide volunteers with information
- Manage breakfast set up and delivery
- Manage lunch set up and delivery
- Clean up

Time Commitment: Pre-Event Set Up: During the prior week, you can come to the L.A. Works Office for a couple of hours or however long you can commit to between the hours of 9:00am and 6:00pm.

Event Shift 1: 6:00am-10:00am (approximately)

Event Shift 2: 10:00am-2:30pm (approximately)

  • You can commit to one or both shifts
