Volunteer Opportunity description

For over 30 years, Doorways for Women and Families has created pathways out of domestic violence and homelessness leading to safe and stable lives. Doorways seeks a volunteer Spanish/English interpreter to play a key role in providing services to clients. The volunteer must be fluent in Spanish and English. Experience as an interpreter is desired but not required. The volunteer will be responsible for interpreting conversations and translating documents for the client during meetings with Doorways' staff. All conversations and interactions need to be interpreted in context using exact language and terms used by client and staff. Some interpretations may be conducted via telephone but the volunteer must also be available for in-person sessions. Pending the need of the client, average time committment of 1-3 hours per week is desired. Weekday afternoon or early evening availabilty is required. Volunteers must complete volunteer training and background check. This is an unpaid position.
