Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization committed to fostering the next generation of foreign policy leaders. Founded in 2004 and run by a team of more than 100 dedicated volunteers, YPFP has grown from a start up to a global community of 10,000 young professionals in more than 60 countries with branches in Washington, New York, London, and Brussels.

The Development Department is looking to bring on board 1-2 Directors that will work collaboratively with the other members of the Development team to achieve YPFP's fundraising and donor engagement goals.

Position Description:

The Development Department of YPFP is responsible for ensuring that the organization has the financial resources necessary to fulfill its mission of fostering the next generation of foreign policy leaders. The staff member is responsible for implementing development projects, which may include special fundraising events, donor engagement, and research on external funding opportunities. This is a volunteer position with a one-year commitment to working together with fellow motivated team members to execute YPFP's development and fundraising objectives.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to Development's operations, including seeking funding opportunities that directly result in increased revenue for the organization;
  • Formulate and execute funding objectives and contribute to research and writing of grants and proposals;
  • Assist in the planning of fundraising events, including partner outreach, communication with vendors, and other logistics;
  • Define metrics for success for projects and report to the Vice President of Development;
  • Collaborate with the Development team on a regular basis, including attending monthly meetings and strategy sessions.

Eligibility and Requirements:

  • Highly motivated and responsible;
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organization and management skills;
  • Strong communication, written, and people skills;
  • Availability to attend monthly Development Team meetings in-person;
  • Previous non-profit or business experience and/or experience fundraising, grant writing, or event planning desirable but not required;
  • General (dues-paying) YPFP member based in the Washington, DC area.
