Volunteer Opportunity description

Are you a landscaper, arborist, irrigation specialist, or just a gardener extraordinaire? Come lend your skills to Rebuilding Together San Francisco, the city's leading nonprofit helping low-income homeowners. We are increasingly working on greening, gardening and other landscape type projects, either in the public sphere or with local non-profits and are always in need of skilled landscape type professionals – to help lead a team of volunteers, to help us plan out a realistic scope of work and to help us design sustainable and manageable outdoor projects. We've done concrete removal and greening on sidewalks, built gardens in public schools, built and installed planter boxes in a retirement home, designed and implemented water catchment systems just to name a few previous projects.

For over 22 years now, Rebuilding Together San Francisco has been mobilizing teams of volunteers to help repair and renovate the homes of low-income residents as well as nonprofits and community centers. Our annual Rebuilding Weekend event each April involves 1,600-2,000 volunteers on 30-35 homes and non-profit facilities all over the City.

Founded in 1989 after the Loma Prieta earthquake as a grassroots barn-raising inspired organization, Rebuilding Together San Francisco has worked all over the City to ensure that seniors, adults with disabilities and low-income families are warm and able to age safely in place both through our annual Rebuilding Weekend program and our year-round Home Safety and Independence program. We also engage volunteers in the renovation and beautification of nonprofits, community facilities and public spaces, allowing them to better focus on their mission and the community they serve. And it's because of our volunteers that we're able to accomplish as much as we do each year.
