Volunteer Opportunity description

This medical volunteer program is located in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand. This program is ideal for medical students, doctors, nurses, paramedics, pharmacist, midwives, and other medical related individuals.

We are a non-profit medical social organization, working among the poor, less fortunate and marginalized hill-tribe people in the hills.

We move from village to village as we give free medical treatments, building toilets, building clean water supply system and doing many other social activities to improve the lives of these less fortunate and marginalized human beings in the region. In each village we stay with the host hilltribe family and eat with them. Please visit our website for more information.

Way of Volunteer:

As a medical volunteer you will be working at the rural village's clinics where all types of patients come to check their health. They are poor and deprived, can not access to local health care centers due to the poverty, lacks of transportation, lack of citizenship or national ID and superstition thinking etc. In these village clinics you have to assist Dr. David in the treatment of patients. Also, you will participate in such program such as vaccinating, giving injections IV, I M, checking patients, consulting to patients, nutrition, or treatment of minor injuries. Volunteers also may take a part in health camp, mobile clinic, visiting door-to-door program.

We are working in one particular region or area in Chiang Rai sub-district and it is hilly region and is quite far from the city. There are about 50 hill-tribe villages in the region. We move around from village to village as we give free medical treatment in a bamboo hut clinic that we set up in each village and we normally stay 2-3 days. Most of the time, we move on foot, trekking from village to village on the hills, plain and in the valley as villages locate in different places. The distance between the villages is 2-10 kilometers. We do the following things as we move around:

1. Setting up a bamboo clinic in each village, giving free medical treatments

2. Giving assistance to Dr. David in his daily medical social work

3. Teaching first aid and health educations to the villagers

4. Teaching languages, computers and other subjects to the hill-tribes

5. Building toilets, water supply system, classrooms, dining halls, bridges and other necessary things

6. Playing games with hill-tribes and clean the villages to be a better place

7. And many other programs that we like to do in order to build a better place for the poor and unprivileged hill-tribes
