Volunteer Tutors Needed!! K-12 - The Bridge Project Denver

Posted on: January 7, 2013

Posted by: The Bridge Project

Description

The Bridge Project is a community outreach initiative of the University of Denver's Graduate School of Social Work. Our mission is to provide educational opportunities for children living in Denver's public housing neighborhoods so they graduate from high school and attend college or learn a trade.

During our afterschool program, kids have a chance to work one on one with a volunteer tutor from the community. We have so many students this year and are in need of more volunteers. We need your help!

As a Bridge Tutor, you can give hope to a deserving child growing up in Denver's public housing neighborhoods.

  • Each volunteer is matched with an individual student.
  • The tutor and tutee spend 45mins to 1 hour a week together through the end of the school year at one of our four locations.
  • Volunteers choose a day and time that works best for their schedule, anywhere Monday through Thursday from afterschool hours through 800pm.
  • The Bridge Project provides training and ongoing tutor support.
  • Given the importance of literacy in our program, the Bridge Project seeks people who are at least 18 years of age, ready for college English, and have scores of TOEFL >104 and IELTS >7.5 for non-native English speakers.
  • No special skills are required.

LocationsWe have program sites located in four public housing neighborhoods in Denver. Volunteers are assigned to a location that is most convenient for them or where there is the highest need for tutors.
