Volunteer Opportunity description

Volunteers utilize their public relations skills to promote a positive general image of the Society. Incumbent will assist in general recruiting, recognition efforts and advertising as well as help to develop a publicity plan for the office. Volunteer should have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Orientation and training will be arranged as much as possible at the convenience of the volunteer. We offer reimbursement for childcare and round-trip mileage expenses.

Job Duties

  • Support local Program Chairs with their recognition, training, administrative, or special event needs
  • Support the communications program through various activities, including but not limited to: newsletter contributor, briefs, formal presentations, event/promotional displays, Advisory Board meeting materials, professional correspondence, historian/archives, graphic design, and cyber support
  • Support local Program Leads with their communications needs
  • Maintain a publicity portfolio and social media sites
  • Create and submit ads for volunteer recruitment

Special Skills, Training or Knowledge Required

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word or familiarity with other word-processing software
  • Completion of NMCRS Orientation class
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasking
  • Satisfy NMCRS casework check for previous client status
  • Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the site
  • Ability to maintain a nonjudgmental demeanor, objectivity, and confidentiality
  • Ability to listen and communicate
  • Ability to present a professional, friendly, and objective appearance

Minimum Number of Hours or Days per Week Requested

The incumbent will commit for a minimum of 16 hours a month for a minimum of a four month initial commitment. Volunteers will not work more than 16 hours a week. This commitment may be continually renewed in minimum increments of four months. Volunteer Service may be discontinued by COV or Director for failure to abide by the minimum standards. If Volunteer is in need of time off and will not be able to make each monthly service commitment, the Volunteer is asked to communicate this with the COV.
