AmeriCorps Family Advocate in Appalachia

Description

Long-term (August 2013-August 2014) AmeriCorps Member needed to serve as a Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) Family Advocate in rural Eastern Kentucky counties. Family Advocates provide emergency assistance to families in crisis and develop relationships with other comunity organizations to serve people in poverty. Advocates also oversee CAP's Christmas Basket distribution, School Readiness, and Small Farms and Gardens programs. Family Advocates should be independent and able to serve with little supervision.

Christian Appalachian Project is a nonprofit human services organization serving people in need in Appalachia. Long-term volunteers (12 months) receive room and board, a monthly stipend, health insurance, potential AmeriCorps Education Award, and potential loan deferment. This position requires a volunteer who is 21 or older with a good driving record.
