Musician volunteers needed to deliver live, gentle, instrumental music in waiting rooms and other common areas of the hospital to help create a soothing environment for adult patients, family members/visitors, and nurses/staff.
Volunteers must be musicians who play instruments that are easily transported - eg, flute, violin, carry-size keyboard, cello, oboe, guitar. Musicians won't be "performing"; they'll provide soothing, non-vocal background music such as classical, light jazz or folk music.
Training will be provided, including protocols on entering hospital areas, setting up, how to walk through a hospital space and engage with adult patients, family members/visitors and nurses/staff.
Important qualifications include: strong interpersonal and communicaiton skills; ability to sustain playing for 30-45 minutes in 2 hospital areas per shift (30-45 minutes in each area with a 15 minute break - Total: 2 hour time frame); ability to relate well with a diverse population; patience, sensitivity, calm, mature, community service-oriented.
