Volunteer Opportunity description

Flash Freeze for MS

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Join us to celebrate MS Awareness Week as we take it to the streets of Union Square Park and build awareness for a world free of MS!

Every hour someone is newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. This devastating neurological disease impacts more than 2.1 million people worldwide and is most commonly found among young adults. We want to bring awareness to its damaging effects, while inspiring others to join the movement.

We invite you to meet us on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 for a flash freeze demonstration at Union Square Park in Manhattan. We will meet at 12:30 p.m., dressed in orange, on the South Plaza near the steps, which is on 14th Street in the park, across from Whole Foods. Once assembled, a chapter representative will announce "MS stops people from moving." At that time, everyone in our group will freeze in their position of choice for three minutes. The announcer will then say, "The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn't" and we will begin moving. Society staff will distribute flyers and bookmarks to passersby to inform them about MS, and chapter representatives will answer any questions they may have. Our goal is to bring awareness to the public about a very serious condition impacting more than 10,000 New Yorkers every day.

Please RSVP to heather.joseph@nmss.org.
