In Nairobi's Soweto slums, lack of education is one of the most obvious problems plaguing the inhabitants. And here in Kenya, where all subjects besides Kiswahili (the co-national language) are taught in English, a poor foundation in English reduces a pupils' chance to advance in their education, only furthering the problem.
Volunteer4Free Kenya is a free volunteer program out of Nairobi, Kenya. We are seeking volunteers to help primary school pupils in Nairobi's Soweto slums learn to read English. Volunteers will use a few basic resources to help pupils increase their vocabulary, acquire basic grammar, and develop their reading comprehension skills.
Our program is supervised by coordinators with over seven years' experience in hosting international volunteers. A background check (CRB), and fluency in English are the only requirements for participation.
Accommodation is also available from roughly $30 a week.
