Volunteer Opportunity description

Prems Pokhara Childrens Home

EHN Nepal is now looking for volunteers to help a local man called Prem to run his children's home in a small village just outside Pokhara. We are looking for people to help look after the children he has provide a home for by helping with daily chores and homework and fun. If you want you have the option to help teach in the local Government school that Prem is the president of or work with his wife on some possible handy crafts they wish to make. If this is a success then we hope to teach the children an extra skill to help them in later life while making extra money to fund the children's home, health and education.

The tourist bus takes about 7 hrs winding past the Trishuli River to reach Pokhara where Prem will meet you and take you to the village. The home is set in a valley off the Seti River with the Annapurna range of mountains in the distance for company. The home has 14 children in it 2 of which are Prem's children and 2 are the house mother who is a 28yr old widow, the rest are children from single mother families too poor to keep them or orphans. You will also have a few of the local children popping to say hello so it can be a busy place at times.

Your duties will be to help get the children ready for school then take them, washing and cleaning plus helping to get the food ready. The position is full time but you will have time off during the day to use internet or do laundry. You are about a 30minute walk through the village, across the suspension bridge from Mahendrapool where you can find Internet connection plus places to eat if you want to break the dhal bhat diet.

We would like people how are happy to volunteer for a minimum of 1 month for this placement as it will give you and the children longer to bond and for your time to have a greater effect. Once you finish here you are in one of Nepal's best spots to Paraglide, Raft, Zip Line, Climb and of course Trek.
