Opportunity to practice Karma Yoga!
Karma Yoga: "Action for the good of this creation. Karma Yoga means union with God through selfless service. Mother Teresa is a very good example of Karma Yoga path. Everyone can't do what Mother Teresa did but everyone can practice Karma Yoga in life in some degree." – Humanfellowship.org
Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center seeks volunteers to teach yoga to vulnerable community members in Cornelius at its groundbreaking new Wellness Center.
The new Wellness Center opened in mid-October and employs an innovative medical delivery model which aims to keep patients out of the Center – healthy and living their lives to the fullest – through preventive care as well as primary care, dental care, mental health care, vision care and care for migrant farmworkers and others in rural areas through its mobile clinic.
Featured preventive programs in addition to yoga include Tai Chi, physical therapy, cooking classes, community gardens, environmental health education, acupuncture, exercise classes and more. Often times, people of low income do not have the opportunity to experience this level of health care. We would like to include you in changing that reality for the thousands of people in-need we serve each year.
Virginia Garcia seeks a volunteer to teach beginner and intermediate yoga in the following disciplines: mother/baby, restorative, and vinyasa, with the goals of improved physical health and decreased stress. Patients of the Center may be given a "prescription for yoga" by their primary care provider and all interested community members have the opportunity to participate. The payment structure is evolving, but we start with a straight $5.00 per class fee. All fees collected would be split 50/50 with the instructor and there is no charge for use of the space.
Our preference is for a certified yoga teacher who is bilingual in English and Spanish, but we can discuss the use of an interpreter. We would like to offer classes to the community in the morning two days per week and are also open to accomodating our volunteers' schedules.
