Chicago HOPES is currently seeking volunteer tutors to assist in our after-school homework labs located in homeless shelters around the city. Volunteer tutors provide homework assistance as well as homework specific tutoring to the K-8 students living in the homeless shelters.
No tutoring experience is necessary as Chicago HOPES tutors need only be genuinely enthusiastic and ready to make a strong commitment. Patience and flexibility is a must! We also ask that our volunteers be comfortable working with multiple different students in an occasionally fast-paced environment.
The fall program runs from October 1st- December 14th, with 90 minute tutoring sessions Monday through Thursday during the after-school hours (3pm-5pm). Visit our website for exact locations, days and times.
Chicago HOPES volunteers receive the satisfaction of helping and guiding a child's academic & personal development and of creating stability in an ever-changing environment.
Volunteer Tutor Requirements:
Submit online application form via our website in order to be considered for a position. (www.chicagohopes.org) * Be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or GED.
Attend a two and a half hour training session where you will be provided with tips, tricks and techniques to help you in your role. Trainings are held throughout the month of September.
Submit to a free background check.
Once trained, commit to tutoring at least one day per week for the length of the fall semester and not miss more than three sessions during this time.
