CheckOrphan is the leading news and information source for all rare diseases and orphan products. It provides the latest information for patients, healthcare professionals, researchers, industry and government. CheckOrphan is a nonprofit organization, ensuring all information is freely accessible to benefit everyone.
We are looking for one or two people to join our news team and help keep our news and information platform current.
Our mission is to support the rare disease community by informing the world about rare diseases and orphan products and provide unique solutions that help to ensure there are more treatments for rare diseases.
Orphan product status is given to drugs or products developed for rare diseases. The area of rare diseases is the fastest growing field in the pharmaceutical / biotech industry with many career opportunities.
There are over 7,000 rare diseases and they afflict over 60 million people in Europe and the USA alone. Only about 5% of the 7,000 diseases currently have a treatment. About 70% of people with rare diseases are children, and the majority of them will die before they are 15 years old. Rare diseases drive many families into poverty and collectively create a large socioeconomic burden.
