Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County is looking for high school students to volunteer with out High School Bigs program. High School Bigs is a one-to-one mentoring program where volunteer mentors are paired with an elementary school student (ages 7-12) at a partner school. Our emphasis is on helping Bigs (high school students) and Littles (elementary students) to develop a friendship with one another, and giving the Bigs the tools to serve as a role model and confidant to their Little. During sessions together, Bigs and Littles may engage in sports, board games, arts and crafts projects, or simply talk- just as friends do. A Big's friendship with their Little can help the child build self-esteem and confidence, improve social skills and attitudes towards school, and lots more! For high school volunteers, the benefits go far beyond strengthening college applications and gaining community service hours. Being a Big affords you the chance to have a direct impact in your community and gain confidence and leadership skills through service to others.
This program is designed for high school students to participate for a minimum of one calendar year. Sessions meet at the same day and time each week for one hour.
Be a high school student.
Commit to the program for at least one calendar year.
