The New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) provides free civil legal services to low-income New Yorkers. NYLAG clients include immigrants, seniors, the homebound, families facing foreclosure, renters facing eviction, low-income consumers, those in need of government assistance, children in need of special education, domestic violence survivors, persons with disabilities, patients with chronic illness or disease, low-wage workers, low-income members of the LGBT community, Holocaust survivors, and others in need.
NYLAG's General Legal Services Unit (GLS) secures entitlements including food stamps, home care, Medicaid, SSI and other vital government support services for eligible, low-income individuals. GLS also helps low-income families remain in their homes through its Housing and Foreclosure Prevention projects, and assists with employment and consumer law issues.
GLS's Disability Advocacy Project (DAP) works to ensure that eligible disabled individuals receive benefits under the Social Security Disability Program (SSD) and the Supplemental Security Income Program (SSI).
The Disability Advocacy Project is seeking a fall intern. Intern responsibilities will include client interviewing, reviewing medical records, records requests, maintaining and updating client files, assisting with the preparation and processing of client documents, and other administrative tasks as needed.
