Volunteer Opportunity description

Live in community and serve orphans as a teacher at a newly established English immersion school in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. In this role you will have the opportunity to truly change the trajectory of the lives of children through hard work, commitment and relationships, while developing your leadership skills, resilience and faith. Nine English speaking teachers will be asked to sign a 10-month contract beginning on December 30, 2013 and continuing through the end of October, 2014. Teachers will live together in an apartment near the School of Hope and Fundación Salvación orphanage, and they will receive a $100 a month stipend to pay for food. Each teacher will be assigned to a particular grade (pre-kindergarten through sixth grade) and will be in charge of teaching three classes in English (math, art, and English). In addition to their teaching responsibilities, they will be actively involved in mentoring and caring for the kids at the orphanage.

The cost to teachers is $1000 which includes the flight to and from Guatemala, internal travel costs, 3 teacher retreats and necessary visas. Teachers will receive free housing equipped with Wifi internet, a stipend of $100 a month for food, two week-long breaks and an intensive 4 day long training in ESL.
