This is a cultural project, providing opportunity for international participants to get to know Moroccan culture through sharing the life of a host family, attending some Arabic classes, participating in cooking sessions, and also visiting cultural sites of Rabat.
The participants will also help at Mawazine, the international world music festival in Rabat. This festival is a very big event that the city of Rabat organises since 2001. Elton John, Amy Winehouse, Withney Houston, Shakira, Goran Bregovic, Cat Stevens, Mariah Carey, Scorpions, Stevie Wonder, Gloria Gaynor, Pitbull, K'naan, Lenny Kravitz, Alicia Keys, Kanye West and many other famous international singers have performed at the festival.
This year, Mawazine will take place from May 24th to June 1st, 2013 and the band Deep Purple will be giving their first performance in an arab country at the festival. All the shows are free… so, the project participants will be able to see one of the shows every night.
The participants in this project are expected to be motivated to learn Arabic, to discover the aspects of Moroccan life, and to be ready to show some aspects of their cultures at the intercultural evening.
Project dates: May 20 - May 28, 2013
Location: Rabat, the capital of Morocco, situated on the Atlantic Ocean.
