Volunteer Opportunity description

CLUES offers behavioral health and human services to Latino and diverse communities in Minnesota, including: Mental Health Services, Chemical Health Services, Aging Well Services, Family Enrichment Services, Economic Advancement Services (Employment, Education, and Financial Empowerment), and Community Health Worker Services. We employ a fully bilingual and multicultural staff in order to deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate services in a nurturing environment where clients and families can overcome some of life's most challenging issues.

Purpose of Position: The Pathways to Employment (PTE) program assists individuals in their job search by equipping them with the skills and resources necessary to achieve self-sufficiency through meaningful employment. The program includes a combination of classes and independent skills practice time for clients as they work to accomplish objectives towards their personal goals in the program. Classes include instruction on:

  • Basic Technology skills for job searching
  • Resume writing
  • Cover Letter writing
  • Interviewing Skills
  • Email professionalism
  • Other employment-related topics

Position Type: Unpaid volunteer service

Schedule: Flexible – Once or more per week (Monday-Friday) for 3 hours or more.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting PTE coordinators in classroom instruction.
  • Working one-on-one with PTE clients to provide resume/cover letter suggestions, basic technology assistance as well as helping clients with online job searching and applications.
  • Logging class attendance.
  • Following lesson plans when provided or creating new ways to introduce themes and activities.
  • Working cooperatively with adults of diverse cultural backgrounds and learning styles.

Qualifications:

  • Commit to volunteering at least once per week for a 3 month period.
  • Be flexible, reliable, punctual and a positive model for our clients.
  • Interest and/or experience in employment services preferred.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) or (English/Somali) a plus.

Requirements & Training:

  • Attend an initial orientation with a Program Coordinator before volunteering. Location and time to be determined upon volunteer start date with the PTE program.

A criminal background check and/or driving record check may be required. CLUES reserves the right to conduct background checks.
