Volunteer Impact: Homework Help volunteers provide academic support to small groups of BCNY members of various ages ensuring that members complete their homework and use good study skills.
Responsibilities:
- Manage small working groups of boys during drop-in 'Homework Help' sessions and in study halls
- Provide academic support in English, Language Arts, or Math for students in K-12
- Help members answer specific questions, keep members focused, on task, and reinforce necessary basic learning skills as needed
- Refer individual members in need of further assistance to the Educational Director for additional support
- Follow designated schedule and curriculum with routine for students
- Support the success of the ongoing needs and interests of members and parents and review/revise programs to meet their needs
Qualifications:
- Education, Social Work, Psychology, English, and other highly relevant majors are encouraged to apply
- Interest in pursuing a career working with or instructing youth
- Commit to sharing knowledge and contributing to youth and community development
- Willing and able to share experience and serve as a role model and mentor to members
- Knowledge of NYC standards is a plus
