Volunteer Opportunity description

The Caseworker assists clients in assessing needs, identifying resources, and determining what Society services are appropriate to help meet needs. Interviewers work under the supervision of the Chairman of Caseworkers and consults with the Director, Staff Counselors, , and other Volunteer Caseworkers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

¨ Analyze client requests for assistance, complete required verifications, analysis, and review previous casework history.

¨ Assist client to identify alternate solutions to presented problems.

¨ Assess whether needs presented can be met within NMCRS Relief policies.

¨ Make decision whether to assist with loan, grant, or other services/referrals.

¨ Consult appropriate casework personnel before denying clients requests.

¨ Identify community resources and make professional referrals to same.

¨ Complete required paperwork at end of interview.

¨ Prepare casework to be presented to Headquarters in complicated or costly cases requiring an exception to policy or decision by the Relief Committee.

¨ Maintain confidentiality of client information.

QUALIFICATIONS:

¨ Graduation from NMCRS Orientation and NMCRS Case Worker Course .

¨ Ability to maintain objectivity and non-judgmental demeanor.

¨ Ability to assess alternatives and exercise active listening skills.

¨ Satisfy NMCRS casework background check for previous client status.

TIME COMMITMENT:

The incumbent will commit for a minimum of 25 hours a month for a minimum of a four month initial commitment. Volunteers will not work more than 16 hours a week. This commitment may be continually renewed in minimum increments of four months. Volunteer Service may be discontinued by Casework Lead, COV, or Director for failure to abide by the minimum standards. If Volunteer is in need of time off and will not be able to make each monthly service commitment, the Volunteer is asked to communicate this with their Lead.
