VOLUNTEERS WANTED for young and small but ambitious international media and arts charity, working in UK/Sierra Leone.
WAYout is entering its sixth successful year of operations in Sierra Leone, having supported approximately 1,500 street homeless youth, disadvantaged young people and excluded communities such as refugee camps, since its inception in 2007.
We have done this via a range of music, film, media and arts projects - successfully engaging with those previously excluded, supporting them off the streets, into further education and in some cases employment.
But the benefits of the projects and engagement go much further in terms of long-term benefits. WAYout students have repeatedly highlighted how the projects have boosted their confidence, given them something to be proud of, and belief in themselves. As one young person highlighted, "Now I can show my family that someone took me seriously enough to record my music. Now I can go home".
In 2012, we opened our first WAYout Creative Hub, supported by the Strummerville Foundation. An enormous success, providing courses, workshops, projects and respite for many youth from life on the streets, the Hub has worked with over 350 young people in the first 6 months of opening.
We now need your help to keep the projects at our Hub going - and to help the WAYout Hub to be self-sustaining by 2015.
We are looking for volunteers with either
- a background in media, music, arts, film-making, creative writing, or any element of those areas - to join us in Sierra Leone and work/manage projects out there
- experience in fundraising, social enterprise, events management, social networking or marketing background - to help us increase funds and promote the work of WAYout.
(Please note - volunteers volunteering in Sierra Leone will need to raise their own funds for travel, accomodation, and expenses)
