Dynamic English teacher is needed to volunteer with small, innovative NGO committed to ensuring that children complete sixth grade healthy and literate in the Guatemalan Highlands' state of Sololá. This is a newly created part- time volunteer position based in Panajachel. Volunteer will teach English to a group of 15 to 20 teachers from the NGO's partner schools, so they will be better prepared to teach English to their students. Ideal volunteer will have a passion for the organization's mission, be proficient in Spanish, commit to at least four months of weekly or semi-weekly English classes, and have a proven track record as an effective teacher of English as a second or foreign language.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years teaching English as a second or foreign language, ideally with adults Experience creating and adapting curriculums
Ideally, has experience with training participative teaching methods to teachers
Positive, enthusiastic and flexible
ESL certification preferred
Independent and experience living/working in Guatemala
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and enhance current English curriculum - Create a plan of classes through the end of the 2013 school year (October 2013), and possibly beyond - Create a pre- and post-test to monitor improvement and learning
- Conduct weekly or bi-weekly two-hour English classes with 15 -20 teachers fromMM's partner schools - Provide biweekly written (?) summaries of activities to in-country director

- Classroom in Panajachel equipped with white board and markers
- Photocopies
- Pens, pencils
- Supplies for activities
- In-country director will be available for consultation and support
TIME COMMITMENT:
- Volunteer will commit to weekly or bi-weekly two-hour classes from June 24 – October 15 (and possibly in 2014)
