STEM From Dance (SFD) empowers high school minority girls from low-income communities to become economic and technological leaders of the 21st century by increasing access, achievement, and the pursuit of STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) fields. In addition to intensive academic enrichment, we focus on strengthening self-efficacy and expression through the character-building nature of dance. Together, STEM and dance cultivate the creativity and confidence needed to compete in the global economy.
Why STEM? Since nearly 80% of future careers will require awareness of and facility with STEM, math and science courses have become the gateway to economic freedom and choice. Yet, approximately 2% of STEM workers are Black or Hispanic women (U.S. Department of Commerce Report Education, 2011).
Volunteering with SFD is a great opportunity for anyone looking to use their talents while making a difference and supporting a great cause!
