Volunteer Opportunity description

EHN Nepal is currently looking for volunteers to help rural farmers in the lowland region of Chitwan close to the Rapti River and Chitwan National park. This project is a perfect way to experience rural life in the lowland areas of Nepal while helping a local family to run their homestead. You will be required to help with all sorts of chores depending on the time of year from milking cows to harvesting the rice or corn. No previous experience in farming is necessary as you will be shown how to do the relevant tasks required however a moderate level of fitness would be beneficial.

The accommodation for this project will be a home stay on a full board basis with the family you'll be helping. The meals you have while here are local so expect Dhal Bhat twice a day with snacks and tea for lunch. Dhal Bhat is similar to Indian thali and comprises of rice, dhal, potatoes and a pickle normally made from vegetables, all of which will have a certain amount of herbs and spices to add flavour. Please be warned that rural life in Nepal starts early and normally finishes when the sun sets so you will need to get use to 5:30am starts and quite evenings but you are able to drink and chat with your hosts should you require a night cap or two

You will have time off to explore the surrounding area and visit Chitwan national to see the single horn rhino and if you're lucky one the many Tigers living in the national park. Chitwan national park can be viewed on a jeep safari, by boat, on the back of an elephant or if you are really interested in wildlife all three.

Please note this is a paying volunteer placement which EHN Nepal charge £10 or $15 per day plus an £80 admin. The bulk of the money you pay goes to the home stay you'll be living with the rest going on food and transport. All you need is enough to cover luxuries such as beer, chocolate, internet, laundry and some souvenirs. Everything else is covered by EHN Nepal including your airport pickup, drop off and a city tour.

If you are interested in this placement or just want more detailed information please contact EHN Nepal on the email below.
