Volunteer Opportunity description

This position is for a Volunteer Grant Writer with fundraising or nonprofit development experience, with emphasis on government and/or foundation giving. A background in HIV/AIDS issues or in the provision of free legal services is helpful.

This position will be responsible for doing research to identify potential funders, writing letters of intent and grant proposals, and assisting in budget development. This person must make sure all materials are on hand for grant submissions, be willing to revise grant proposals, and be a compelling writer. The ideal volunteer also will have:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and computer proficiency
  • An ability to meet deadlines
  • An ability to work independently and with staff while demonstrating sound judgment
  • Attention to detail, and be a stickler for accuracy
