The board member, in conjunction with peers, will support the work of GIRHL and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance in partnership with the Executive Director.

Specific Board Member responsibilities include:

  • Leadership, governance and oversight of organizational activities
  • Serving as a trusted advisor to GIRHL strategic plan(s) are developed and implemented
  • Manage the selection, supervision, and, if necessary, the dismissal and replacement of the Executive Director
  • Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by GIRHL for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics;
  • Reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
  • Approving GIRHL's annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
  • Contributing to an annual performance evaluation of the Executive Director
  • Assisting the Executive Director and Board Chairman in identifying and recruiting other Board Members
  • Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments as needed
  • Representing GIRHL to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
  • Ensuring GIRHL's commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities GIRHL serves
  • Finally, each board member is expected to contribute annually to the organization his or herself or from his or her network commensurate with ability

Qualifications:

  • Integrity and dedication to GIRHL's mission and those it serves
  • Commitment to sound fiscal and regulatory practice
  • Experience in a related field
  • Affinity for building relationships and gathering individuals and donors to one's cause
  • Ablility to collaborate with a team
  • Comfortable performing duties remotely
  • Understanding of the role of governing
