Come experience the Negev Desert in a unique way while creating eco-buildings from earth, straw, and mud for sustainable living initiatives.

Location

This project takes place in the Arava Valley, in the Negev Desert, in the southern part of Israel.

The location is a fantastic and unique village resort built entirely from local mud and materials. It was started by a young family as a way of honoring the principles of simplisting living, and maintaining close contact with the earth.

Volunteer Work and Contribution

Volunteers mainly participate in the construction and maintenance of the Eco-Village. You get the opportunity to work with earth, which is something entirely unique to other modes of construction like cement, plastering, and the like. The walls isolate heat and cold and the materials are entirely biodegradable. Steps for building include:

• Preparing foundations of straw bales and earth
• Building construction and plastering
• Plastering includes a sculpturing layer, a clay layer, and an external plastering layer.
• All earth used is found in the surrounding areas.

• Meet like-minded volunteers from all over the world.
• Volunteer accomodation is in these open space huts. They are practically built to house 4 volunteers comfortably. Each hut includes a toilet, hot water shower, coffee corner, private outdoor sitting area, and a fire place with a supply of wood.
• Volunteers are also encouraged to travel during their day off, to explore nearby regions of Israel such as Eilat or Jerusalem.
