We do this by creating opportunities for collaboration and innovation and building the capacity for leadership in sustainability and through pilot projects for solution implementation to achieve the vision of a sustainable region, a thriving economy, a healthy environment and socially equitable community.
About the position:
Sustainability Silicon Valley is seeking a leader for developing content for their new online sustainability website, EcoCloud.
The Content Manager will work closely with the EcoCloud Editor, Technical Team Leader, Content Team Leads, and EcoCloud Team to select content, prioritize content, and edit content submitted by others. The Content Team Leader will help to structure and develop the content team. Ultimately the Content Team Leader will have Content Team Leaders in the areas of water, energy, materials, and sustainability. The Content Manager is our most critical need, and prior to bringing an Editor on board, the Content Manager will also be the Editor.
The EcoCloud project, http://ecocloud1.ning.com/ EcoCloud™, a project of Sustainable Silicon Valley (SSV) in conjunction with public and private sector partners, is a virtual space where business leaders and facility managers can work with technology innovators, researchers, and government agencies to make enterprises more sustainable and profitable. Drawing on the latest social networking tools, participants can collaborate, learn, plan, and make valuable connections. It is both a collaborative content management system and an advanced scenario-based planning and evaluation engine.
This is a volunteer position which enables qualified candidates to gather experience and to prove their capabilities in a non-profit organization environment in the field of sustainability. The ideal candidate should commit a minimum of 8-12 hours per week working at the SSV Santa Clara office location. It is preferred that the candidate has his/her own laptop and communications tools.
In return for the volunteer hours, the benefits to the volunteer candidate may include: job reference letter from the Executive Director of SSV, experience gained while volunteering on various projects, networking opportunities, and current resume entry. Most importantly, you will be helping the organization work towards its vision of a sustainable region, a thriving economy, a healthy environment and socially equitable community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Obtain content from Content Team leaders, SSV partners, SSV marketing team, and others
Develop Editorial Calendar
Work with SSV and EcoCloud Team to develop plan for buildout of the content of the EcoCloud Website
Edit and post content on the EcoCloud Website including blogs, forums, webinars, pictures, pdfs, and other information
Post announcements about events on EcoCloud website
Develop text about Sustainability topics, EcoCloud, and SSV's Activities with SSV team members to obtain information about SSV and develop articles about current SSV activities
Answer questions from people who are submitting content
Ultimately will have content team leaders reporting to them.
Develop a system to coordinate content submissions
Coordinate and track content submissions
Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of partner, staff and agency information.
Qualities and Skills:
1-2 years of experience Technical Editor
1 year experience in managing content about Sustainability topics
1 year of experience managing a content-based web site using a content management application such as Ning, Drupal, WordPress, Joomla!, a wiki tool, or a Facebook site
1 year of experience with a least one hosting organization
6 months experience with using video technology for educational use, including webinars
Excellent technical writing and editing skills
Dependable, motivated professional, used to take on responsibility, communicating clearly and producing agreed upon results reliably.
Ability to collaborate in a team setting and contribute to team goals.
Good communication skills in interaction with partners, colleagues and visitors.
Experience with web analytics tools to measure site usage, such as Google Analytics
Experience in using PC or Mac and standard office applications (e.g. MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Excel).
Experience with email marketing tools (e.g., Constant Contact) is a bonus.
Experience with databases (MySQL) and geographic information sources (e.g., Google Earth, ArcInfo) is a bonus
