The Fuller Center Bicycle Adventure (FCBA) has an opening for a Logistics Specialist and Support Vehicle Driver on our 6th annual summer cross country ride from Savannah, GA to Vancouver, British Columbia (June 7 – August 11, 2013)

As the FCBA Support Vehicle Driver, you will accompany and assist around 30 cyclists on what many say is one of the most meaningful journeys of their lives. Over the course of the two trips we will travel over 4,000 miles through 14 states and one Canadian province in hopes of raising over $200,000 for the Fuller Center for Housing. More than cyclists, the Fuller Center Bike Adventure participants are ambassadors for The Fuller Center for Housing, helping to raise awareness about the need for affordable housing for low-income families. While traveling, the team will also help to build or renovate Fuller Center homes and speak to the media, church groups and civic organizations. Visit www.fullercenter.org/bikeadventure for more information on the ride.

Your job will be to help the trip run as smoothly as possible and assist with the various needs of riders and other volunteers.

Specific Duties:

  • Drive van and support trailer
  • Make morning supply runs (ice, bananas, etc.)
  • Assist in determining where rest stops should be and set out food/coolers for riders (we generally ride between 40 and 100 miles / day, and have a rest stop about every 20 miles)
  • Coordinate with riders who are injured and/or have bike problems and need picked up
  • Perform basic maintenance checks on van and trailer
  • Assist trip leader with staying in contact with upcoming church hosts to make sure everything is set up for our stay
  • Assist in creating the route for the next day's ride (this one is optional and based on previous experience)

Requirements:

  • Need to be comfortable driving a 12 passenger van with an attached 6x12 trailer in a variety of environments and traffic conditions
  • Need to remain very flexible as plans change often!
  • Must be able to communicate and work well with others
  • A strong desire to work in a Christian organization to help improve the lives of those less fortunate

This is an unpaid volunteer position, but once you're on the ride your housing and most of your meals will be included. You are not required to pay the ride registration fee or raise money, however if you are inspired to participate in fundraising with the riders, we would invite and encourage you to do so!
