VENT! is currently seeking a New Media Intern to work at our Kathmandu office. The intern will play an integral part in running an online magazine and new media organization that primarily targets Nepali youth. As an intern, you will be working on different aspects that include content management, organizing workshops, collaborating with organizations on projects, grant writing, marketing and social media. Do note that the internship can be customized to fit the needs of the intern.
What we need: --Interest in new media, journalism, photography, graphics and/or the arts --Excellent English speaking and writing --Ability to work effectively in a team as well as on your own --Preferably someone with journalism, photography, grantwriting and crowdsourcing skills --Laptop mandatory (since we don't have enough to spare) --Minimum 3 months commitment
What you'll get: --Exposure to the new media and youth scene in Kathmandu --Work with creatives passionate about their work --Develop your skills in a friendly, play-hard/work-hard environment --Great references and work to show for --Room with shared bathroom, kitchen, terrace, hotwater, wi-fi at minimal rent in central location of town --Endless Nepali tea!
We hire interns on a rotating basis throughout the year so they can apply anytime. The internship is unpaid, but we offer college credits for students who ask for it. Although we are flexible with the schedule, we require a firm commitment of 30 hours per week, 5 days a week for a duration of 3-6 months.
There are two rooms for rent available in our office, which is located at a central location with cafes and restaurants within a walking distance. The rent is $175/month including wifi, water, electricity, hot water and back-up generator (since Kathmandu has no electricity 10 hours a day). The room will share a bathroom, kitchen and terrace.
If you don't plan to rent the room in our office or if you are not getting college credits, the internship fee for international applicants is $75/month, which helps us with our operational costs. (We prefer not to charge, but since we are a start-up organization that is independently funded, our source of support is individual donors and rent from our rooms). For any questions, please contact editor@ventine.com.
Send a cover letter, a resume, application form (click here http://bit.ly/13f60ZK) and samples of your writing, photography or video to editor@ventzine.com. After receiving the above, we will set up a Skype interview with you.
