Volunteer Opportunity description

AseraCare Hospice seeks caring, compassionate individuals who are willing to spend approximately a hour a week visiting our terminally ill patients and their families. Volunteers spend sacred time together with patients and families by simply accompanying them during their final journey. Companions offer patients healing, by practicing a calming presence, deep compassion, and generous listening. Volunteers play an important role in providing social support and decreasing isolation that can so often occur for the terminally ill. Volunteers are provided training, a training certificate, and hours of service are flexible to suit individual schedules. Training blends ancient wisdom with contemporary practices. AseraCare Hospice services the Twin Cities metro area, providing care to patients where ever they live (in their homes, in assisted living homes, in group homes, and in nursing homes).

If you are grieving a significant loss of a family member or close friend, we do ask that you wait thirteen months before commencing hospice volunteering.

How to apply

Volunteer training is offered quarterly in our Bloomington, MN office (in 2013, remaining training dates are in May, August and November). Contact the Volunteer Coordinator (via e-mail if possible) for the schedule, and to learn more about the process of becoming a Volunteer.
