AmeriCorps, Monterey County United for Literacy seeks literacy tutors to read with K-4th grade students. Our tutors earn a living stipend, serve at least 40 hours a week and are assigned to schools in Salinas, CA. Greenfield positions available upon request. Program dates are: 8/27/2013 – 7/31/2014.
Qualifications:
-Bachelor's Degree by August highly preferred
-Experience working with children or education. (Tutors will receive training and orientation.)
-Ability to complete 1700 hours of tutoring and community service over the 11-month program term.
Benefits:
-AmeriCorps monthly living stipend ($1,100/month over 11 months = $12,100 total).
-Segal Education Award of $5,550 upon successful completion of 1700 tutoring hours.
-Health insurance for the AmeriCorps member (no coverage for dependents).
-Childcare assistance if eligible. (Payable only to licensed approved providers).
-Student Loan Forbearance
-Most tutors (who are not dependents) qualify for food stamps at social services.
