Your Role

Sustainable Vision Tanzania urgently needs caring, happy and willing volunteers to help to educate, inspire and care for children of all ages from pre-school to late teens during the current long summer holiday season and beyond. Help to give Pre-schoolers a solid base in counting and their ABC. Help them understand basic English and give them the head start they need entering Primary education. Help the Primary level children with their overall competence in English. When the lucky successful ones move onto Secondary School it will be entirely taught in English, many of them will fail right there and then because of their previous lack of exposure to the English language. Help to prepare them for the transition. Help the Secondary schoolers advance their English, Maths and many other subject skills. Help to organise games, singing, dancing, music, art projects or just be there for them. Be a big sister or brother, auntie or uncle, or bibi and babu (Grandma and Grandpa). Every moment spent with these kids exposes them to the vital ingredient they all need to progress within the Tanzanian education system. IE: English.

Our commitment

What will Sustainable Vision Tanzania offer you? Access to an experience that will leave a positive imprint on your heart and soul for life whilst enjoying the wonderful, rich culture and vibrancy of this peaceful nation in a safe and secure SVT hostel. A choice of SVT sponsored projects working with kids of all ages and skills, full support and cultural awareness advice from local English speaking SVT staff, access to tours and trips at local rates to enhance your stay and the chance to be a part of the SVT mission and make a difference in the lives of individual vulnerable children within the many local Moshi communities. Apply now and tell us what you want to achieve from your volunteer placement, let us advise and help you a an individual with unique needs and expectations.

Your Profile

A big heart, a sunny disposition, a sense of humour and a willingness to absorb the local cultural ways and to respect and pay homage to those traditions are the key elements we need right now. If you have teaching, medical, musical, artistic or creative skills all will be welcomed and put to excellent use.

Terms of Placement

To volunteer in Tanzania requires the purchase of two visas. The first tourist visa should be purchased at the airport at a cost of 50US$ (100US$ for American passport holders) allowing entry as a tourist. On arrival at SVT and once you have selected the project of your choice you will need a business visa at a cost of 250US$ for a 1 to 3 month stay. SVT are happy to arrange for the provision of this visa for you together with airport pick up and drop off via their local contacts for a total inclusive charge of 100US$.

We advise all volunteers to bring a minimum of 400US$ (450 US$ for American passport holders) with them to ensure all visa and transport costs are covered. Any volunteer wishing to stay for longer than three months are very welcome and should apply separately for visa costs.

Visa requirements and fees are set by the Tanzanian government and are completely outside of SVT's control, however we cannot accept volunteers into our projects on a day to day basis as anything other than visitors without the provision of a business visa.

Low cost local hostel accommodation is provided to all SVT volunteers on a sliding scale starting at 25US$ per night for stays of two weeks to one month with reductions thereafter.

All accommodation packages include breakfast, dinner and laundry in a shared room with mosquito net, a locking cabinet or drawer (bring your own padlock), hot and cold running water and western style toilet facilities on a shared basis. Cultural orientation, a local town tour, and assistance with purchases such as internet bundles, sim cards, local arts and crafts and tourist trips at competitive local rates are also included.

The SVT team currently subsidise all of the organisation's work and have committed to ensuring that all accommodation and/or associated profits will be reinvested to SVT projects and needs.
