Volunteer Executive Director (with stipend)

  • Boston, MA, US

To apply, please email hr@awlci.org with a copy of your resume and a brief description of yourself and your interests.

AWLCI is currently seeking a motivated individual to lead this language school and its 9 members for 6-12 months. This is an entirely volunteer-run organization managing multiple language programs in the Boston community and focusing on English as a Second Language and Spanish for medical professionals. In as little as 2-3 days per week, the successful candidate will manage the efforts of team members, coordinate programs throughout the community, and continue the growth of this nonprofit.

This opportunity to oversee the work we do in the Boston community could be the perfect next step for recent graduates interested in developing real leadership experience through managing a team of individuals. This may also be an ideal opportunity for recently retired individuals interested in a leadership role within the community. As Executive Director, you would set your own schedule, allowing time for your other responsibilities. You would also have the support of the previous ED throughout your tenure as he transitions into an advisorial role within the organization.

While this is an unpaid volunteer opportunity, there is a $4,000 stipend awarded at the end of 12 months ($2,000 for 6-month commitment) to help with travel and other similar expenses plus an additional $350/month stipend).

The ideal candidate...

  • Is a strong leader, communicator, and motivator
  • Has strong problem solving and planning skills
  • Is a fast learner
  • Has some teaching experience
  • Is a persistent and patient individual

Responsibilities include...

  • Prioritizing projects and resources
  • Delegating responsibilities and tasks to team members
  • Initiating and coordinating programs with community partners as needed
  • Filling in personnelle gaps as needed

AWLCI manages two main initiatives: Boston Community ESOL Center and Boston Medical Spanish Center.

To apply, please email hr@awlci.org with a copy of your resume and a brief description of yourself and your interests.
