RETOM Uganda is looking for mature Christian volunteers and a personalities who are able to integrate and express Christian values in rehabilitation works in a post war region of Northern Uganda.More especially in areas affected by nodding Syndrom that has affected children from 05 years of age to 23 years of age.

Priority themes

RETOM Uganda through Revival Child Care project seeks to address the insecure situation of nodding syndrome and improve the dignity in lives of the children and the families affected through a development approach. Rights-base intervention subject matters of the intervention are continuous; sensitization/mapping, psychosocial support, rehabilitation and special need education, nutrition supports and food security as a holistic way of revitalizing the lives of these suffering people.

  • The project seeks to continue sensitizing the community through the local churches on nodding syndrome in order to identify, forecast respond and manage nodding syndromes in their locality. A community participatory approach shall be employed in the eventuality in order to enable the community own the process and come up with a community initiative which is appropriate and within their means and hence its sustainability.
  • Project seeks to provide psychosocial care and support to children and the families with means to relieve their emotional stress. Given the doubt about the disease and devastative effects it has on the child and the family's livelihood, many are suffering from emotional trauma. We will build the capacity of the people to support themselves through counseling and group therapy. This will built their future with one another through providing the affected with reliable support network to share their experience and plans
  • Improving nutrition status of the children and promote hygiene practices within the household affected by nodding syndrome for improving their self-esteem. Many Nodding disease affected children are suffering from malnutrition and living in a very poor hygiene areas as a result of several disasters and are in need of direct beneficial supplementary feeding and positive hygiene practice to improve their nutrition and to effectiveness of the medication they are on. However this children
  • Enhancing livelihood intervention such as training in alternative income generating activities, startup capital and farming tools to families affected by nodding syndrome. This will help to empower the affected families since much of the family's time has been spend caring for the sick. This will help these Families to easy food production and to grow food that directly battle the vitamin deficiency associated with the disease as well as a new method of producing for the family and the market
  • Rehabilitating services to the deformed children and special needs educate to the extremely affected children who cannot walk and adopt formal education
