Volunteer Opportunity description

Are you bilingual in Spanish and English? Are you looking for a medical shadowing experience?

Be a Volunteer Medical Interpreter!

Operation Access iscommitted to helping low-income, uninsured people receive the surgical and specialty care they need but cannot afford.

If you are an individual who has strong language skills and would like to volunteer to help patients navigate through the medical system, we would like to meet you.

Volunteer interpreters provide translation services at appointments and procedures to ensure clear communication between physicians and patients. Volunteer interpreters represent OA and advocate on behalf of its patients when appropriate.

Benefits of being a volunteer interpreter:

  • Help low-income uninsured patients from Bay Area Counties
  • Maintain Spanish Language Skills
  • Develop knowledge of the specialty care system
  • Gain experience with medical terminology

Requirements:

  • English and Spanish fluency (previous medical experience preferred)
  • Availability during the week
  • Positive attitude, reliable, good communication skills, and attention to detail
  • Candidates will be screened on the phone, and will attend a training session before beginning to interpret.
