In Kenya you can find one of our latest partners, The Mustard Seed Project. They are located in an urban slum close to the port city of Mombasa, Kenya. Mombasa city, an island is connected to the mainland through creeks. It is the second largest city in Kenya and point of entry to Africa from the east.
Together with The Muskoka Foundation, The Mustard Seed Project aim at enhancing access to education in the local community close to Mombasa. They believe that empowering the people in the community will also help in them to improve access to their basic needs.
Think about what you could add to the activities and learning in a school or maybe you are good at just adding something essential that will just make someone's life more fulfilling.
Community Healthcare. Child health care is important for local organizations that work with children. With your skills you can help improve the health issues in the community. .
Education. Working with the primary school involves teaching at the classes and helping to complete other projects related to the completion of the school building. Your skills will also be needed in helping the teachers improve on their skills.
Sports. Are you already involved in a sports program or would like to teach new sporting skills? You can work with the youth and the local sporting teams on different activities in the community.
Photography. Would you like to teach basic photography skills to the youth in this community? Can you help create a camera drive for a photography workshop at the Mustard Seed Project. Help teach the youth on how to express their community and activities through images and photography.
Vocational Training Programs. Share and Teach vocational skills like sewing and design, culinary art and IT to students and members of the community.
Entrepreneurship. Branding and marketing is very important for local organizations. You can share your skills with building on the image of the foundation and brainstorm ideas for improving on their services.
Global Citizenship Program. Present a slideshow of your life, your hobbies and profession and journey to inspire and mingle with people in the community.
