SCOPE OF WORK:
Volunteer will assist with initial resettlement activities such as preparing apartments, accompanying clients to appointments, teaching clients how to use public transportation, cashing checks and orientation to the Wichita community.
Preparing for refugee families to arrive in the United States by assisting with readiness of apartments;
Provide direct resettlement services to individual refugees and families according to donor requirements and guidance - including: assisting with airport pick-ups and home safety visits; transportatoin to public benefit enrollment appointments; applying for SSI; assistance attending health screening and medical/dental/vision appointments; enrolling children in schools, enrolling adults in community ESL classes;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Proficient in general software programs including MS Office and Excel;
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
Willingness to be flexible in the workplace;
Desire to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds;
Ability to work through interpreters, as needed;
Patient and empathetic with quality interpersonal skills;
Ability to log volunteer hours through IRC's online volunteer tracking system;
Commitment to maintain confidentiality at all times.
