Volunteers who choose to work with children will be based in communities facing extreme poverty, mainly in the outskirts of Lilongwe. This program aims to help children who have in many cases lost their parents; may have been living on the street, or whose parents struggle to provide sufficient care.
Volunteers in Malawi assist with a variety of tasks dedicated to caring for children. These include helping with food preparation, cleaning and basic building maintenance, in addition to playing games and arranging activities for the children, helping with homework and getting the kids ready for school.
The experience of helping vulnerable children, while it can be emotionally difficult, is a positive and life-changing one. The children greatly benefit from the support and attention that they receive from the volunteers.
As this program involves working closely with orphaned and at risk children a three week minimum commitment is required to participate. Some experience working with children is preferred, as is a responsible, enthusiastic and compassionate attitude.
