Learn how to grow organic produce in the city. Work with like-minded people in the fields of education, health and food systems. Support Edible Education for New York City schoolchildren!
Edible Schoolyard NYC (ESYNYC) partners with public schools to build gardens and kitchen classrooms where children can engage in hands-on learning. The objective is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and environment required to change the way they eat for life.
Edible Schoolyard NYC seeks volunteers to garden at our Brooklyn Showcase School, P.S. 216 in Gravesend, Brooklyn. Volunteers our integral to our success, and work to further the beauty and productivity of the garden, maintain spaces for learning and exploration, as well as assist with special projects such as carpentry jobs, tree care or compost maintenance.
Beginners and green-thumbs are equally welcome! One-time, short-term and long-term opportunities are available. Volunteer shifts are on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 9am and 4pm. Many of our volunteers find that committing to an entire season affords the most rewarding experience.
Please send an email to our program coordinator at nes@esynyc.org to receive our volunteer application form.
