Volunteer Opportunity description

What: Coaching volunteers are paired with one participant to work on financial goals through one-on-one and group meetings for 6 months.

Purpose: The financial coaching program focuses on long-term outcomes; provides an ongoing, systematic, collaborative process for assisting participants to change financial behaviors; and build skills based on the participant's unique needs and goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a positive and consistent mentorship to your partner
  • Commit to the following:
  • Attend an initial 6 hour training held on a Saturday, March 29th.
  • Meet with assigned coaching participant once a month for 6 months
  • Attend 4-6 group meetings with participant held during weekday evenings.
  • Become familiar with a variety of financial education tools and community resources that may be useful to individuals and families
  • Assist participant to analyze their financial situation and generate goals and action strategies to improve their financial situation
  • Practice effective communication and goal setting/coaching skills to interact with participants in a respectful, nonjudgmental manner
  • Understand the uniqueness of an individual's attitudes, beliefs and values regarding money

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work with individuals and groups with respect and consideration
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sensitivity to differences
  • Must attend all training sessions
  • Ability to maintain participant confidentiality and trust
  • Basic understanding of budgeting and financial systems
    Transportation access to meeting sites around the Seattle area
