We imagine a world that values biological and cultural diversity, and understands the vital role that we all play in the life support system of our planet. Our programs rely on the efforts of volunteers to ensure the long term viability of each project, whether it be conducting an education curriculm at a local school, or creating a sustainable community. Volunteering with Selva Rica means total immersion as we work to connect you with a deeper understanding of conservation, sustainable living, and cultural diversity. We seek to inspire a long term passion for the great diversity of our planet. In return for your hard work you will gain exposure to real conservation and development issues while playing a part in answering vital questions about the value of nature and indigenous cultures.
MEDIA
Volunteers interested in working in media will have the opportunity to work in all Selva Rica locations including Costa Rica, New York, and Peru. Media volunteers work in a variety of capacities including web design, social media, final cut pro editing, photography, and film production. Media volunteers are required to have experience in the field they decide to work in.
SUSTAINABILITY
Volunteers intersted in working in sustainability will have the opportunity to work at the Selva Rica conservation site in Costa Rica. Sustainability volunteers work in a variety of capacities including organic food production, low impact construction, sustainable energy production, permeculture design, animal husbandry, and homesteading.
EDUCATION
Volunteers interested in working in education will have the opportunity to work in all Selva Rica locations including Costa Rica, New York, and Peru. Education volunteers design and implement education workshops with local primary schools, they form relationships with indigenous organizations, and share their special knowledge and skill sets with community members. We invite educators of all types. Whether your expertise is world history, yoga, traditional medicine, or painting we invite you to enrich our curriculum with your talents.
CONSERVATION
Volunteers interested in working in conservatoin will work at the Selva Rica conservation site in Costa Rica. There volunteers are given the opportunity to plant trees and/or engage in research projects around geography, environmental sciences, agriculture practices, zoology, animal behavior, ecology, and conservation biology.
All volunteers must be over 18 years of age. Volunteers working in our Peru programs must have basic Spanish speaking skills. Spanish is helpful in Costa Rica, but not required. Media volunteers must have prior experience in either media production, web design, photography, or digital editing.
Our ability to host volunteers is limited based on the needs of Selva Rica projects in their various locations. Volunteers may work anywhere from one to 12 weeks at a time.
