This volunteer is based at the reception desk and thus is the first face visitors see. An ideal volunteer is friendly and ready to make a positive first impression of the shelter. There are daily specific tasks (ie Friday computer back up), occasional tasks (ie. Adoption paperwork), and all sorts of random things that need to get done. Duties (include but are not limited to): - answering phone inquiries (or forwarding to appropriate person) - greeting guests to the shelter, answering common inquiries or passing to appropriate staff person - receiving in-kind donations - updating Adoption Books, adoption paperwork, medical database data entry - filing, scanning, emailing, faxing, etc. - interacting with office cats (including the occasional cleaning up) - laundry The position requires: - commitment of weekly shift for three months (minimum) - computer proficiency (not advanced, but a basic understanding is necessary) - friendly disposition - initiative in asking for additional tasks or developing projects - availability between 11am-4pm on the selected day(s) to cover reception, additional availability between 9am-6pm if interested Perks: - learn a lot about animal service resources in the area - taking breaks to visit with the cats - seeing more sides of the organization than the average volunteer - using your skills and interests to create projects to benefit the cats and dogs
