HOUSING VOLUNTEER: RefugeeOne's Housing Department is seeking a volunteer to help with apartment set-up for new refugee arrivals and to assist clients in navigating LIHEAP and signing up for utilities. In the days prior to a refugee's arrival in Chicago, RefugeeOne's housing department secures and prepares quality housing for refugee families. The Housing Volunteer will play a hands on role in providing these services.
This position is a combination of work both inside and outside of the office. The volunteer must be able to do some lifting (mostly just home goods and groceries – maybe occasional furniture and beds), and be willing to commit a minimum of 10 hours a week. Start and end dates are flexible. Access to a car is useful, but not required. The volunteer should be a self-starter and work well with a diverse group of staff and clients.
RefugeeOne is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that provides a full range of services to refugees resettled in the Chicago metropolitan area. The majority of RefugeeOne's services are provided to refugees displaced from their homelands due to war or persecution. Every year, RefugeeOne helps these refugees secure housing, learn English, develop computer and other employable skills, find jobs, obtain medical and other care, access the public school system for their children, and apply for citizenship.
